Johann Friedrich Christoph Ernesti

Johann Friedrich Christoph Ernesti (born February 23, 1705 in Tennstedt , † February 24, 1758 in Arnstadt ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Born as the son of Johann Christoph Ernesti , he attended grammar school in Gotha , studied at the University of Wittenberg and the University of Leipzig in order to devote himself to theology. In 1730 Prince Wilhelm von Schwarzburg gave him the supervision of his library, then administered it for three years in Alkersleben and was then inspector in Gehren for nine years .

In 1744 he was appointed archdeacon and in 1747 superintendent in Arnstadt. In this position he lectured at the Lyceum on religious studies. In addition to his sermons, he dealt with writings explaining the Old and New Testaments and tried to critically assess the various readings of the Hebrew Bible text.
