Johann Arnold Zeitfuchs (born February 26, 1671 in Rosperwenda ; † May 21, 1742 in Stolberg ) was a German chronicler , theologian and spiritual writer.

resume

Johann Arnold Zeitfuchs came from an old pastor family and was taught by his father Georg Arnold Zeitfuchs, who was a pastor in Rosperwenda, until 1684. He then attended school in Frankenhausen for three years . When the father died in March 1686, there was hardly any further school attendance to pay for. After attending high school in Nordhausen for a year , he moved to Quedlinburg , financially supported by a relative, Hofrat Johann Wilhelm Harprecht. In the summer of 1693 Zeitfuchs went to Jena , where he studied under Professors Bechmann, Hebenstreit, Danz, Sagittarius and Schmidt.

In his first temporary spiritual activity, from 1701 he took over the early sermon for Magister Albrecht Böttcher in Stolberg for 15 months at court, in the city and at the hospital . Unanimously elected by the congregation, he was then introduced on the 3rd Easter day in 1702 as pastor in Hainrode in the Questenberg office .

On January 29, 1703 Zeitfuchs married the daughter of Father Nagler in Alkersleben near Arnstadt , Anna Clara.

Introduced on the 3rd Sunday after Trinity 1707 as a deacon to Sankt Martini in Stolberg, he belonged to this parish and the city of Stolberg until the end of his life. In 1717 the count gave him the supervision of the new orphanage, and two years later he was appointed consistorial assessor and inspector of the city school. Furthermore, the Counts Christoph Friedrich and Just Christian made him spiritual inspector and consistorial assessor of the offices in Heringen and Kelbra .

Other works

Zeitfuchs made a significant contribution to the large collection of funeral sermons set up by Countess Sophie Eleonore zu Stolberg . The lion's share of the effort fell to him, for he had to "conduct the correspondence required for the purpose of multiplication and to produce the catalog and to promote it for printing". Presumably his death was the reason that the printing of the second edition remained unfinished. Another undertaking in which he devoted himself and which he saw to be completed shortly before his end was the Stolbergische Gesangbuch.
