Gügleben is a district of the municipality of Elleben in the Ilm district in Thuringia with around 110 inhabitants. It is the smallest of the three districts of the municipality.

geography

Gügleben is about 350 meters above sea level in the northeast of the Ilm district between Erfurt , Arnstadt and Kranichfeld . The place is a street village in a side depression of the Wipfratals . It lies at the transition between the Wipfra plane in the southwest and extensive forests in the northeast. A little to the east of the village is the 513 meter high Riechheimer Berg , visible from afar, which gave the Riechheimer Berg administrative community its name.

St. Gangolf village church

history

Gügleben was first mentioned in a document in a deed of donation from the Fulda monastery dated August 30, 796 . It is one of the older villages in the area. Until 1920 Gügleben belonged to the office of Kranichfeld (left of the Ilm ), which belonged to the district of Saalfeld in the state of Saxony-Meiningen . Gügleben was not connected to the power grid until 1922. In 1920, the state of Thuringia was formed and in the subsequent municipal reform Gügleben was assigned to the Arnstadt district . In 1952 the (reduced) district of Arnstadt was established in the new district of Erfurt . On January 24, 1974, Gügleben was incorporated into the Elleben community . From July 1, 1994 the place belongs to the Ilm district .

Attractions

Window sill with the edification inscription: "ANNO 1697 THIS CHURCH WAS BUILT AGAIN FROM REASON". The mark to the right of the inscription is the stonemason's mark .

The village church of St. Gangolf is built from field stones and was completed in 1697 on the foundation walls of a previous building. This is evidenced by a window sill stone in the south wall of the church. In 1847 the church tower was given a new structure, easily recognizable by the change in the masonry at about half the height of the tower. The present organ was built into the church in 1860. The Protestant parish belongs to the Elxleben parish .

In Gügleben some listed buildings were demolished in the 16th century and in the Open Air Museum Hohenfelden translocated . These half-timbered houses can be visited there today.

Economy and Transport

Gügleben is an agricultural place, although most of the residents now work in nearby Erfurt . Roads connect the place with the neighboring villages Elleben in the south, Werningsleben in the northwest and Riechheim in the east. Erfurt is about twelve kilometers and the A4 about four kilometers to the north.

A 380 KV high-voltage line is to be run north of Gügleben , which will transport electricity from wind turbines in the north to Bavaria.
