Franconian Empire
- Charlemagne founded the Avarsmark and Karantanien as border brands of the Franconian Empire .
- Pippin , son of Charlemagne and since 781 King of Italy , won for the second time after 795 the main castle ( "Ring") of the Avars , they plundered before making it to the ground. The Avar Chagan submits to Pippin on the Danube. The remaining Avars, who did not submit, withdrew behind the Tisza .
Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in the British Isles
- April 18th : After the death of Æthelred I , who falls victim to a conspiracy by the Ealdormen Ealdred and Wada, Osbald is his successor as King of Northumbria .
