- After a first invasion of the Avars , Charlemagne took an offensive against them: until 803 he repeatedly led campaigns in the Pannonian plain. On October 26th, Bishop Angilram of Metz, who was accompanying Charles on his Avar procession, was killed.
 - The Slavic Knes Vojnomir is enfeoffed by Charlemagne after the expulsion of the Avars with White Croatia , a Slavic duchy in the Bavarian East Mark .
 - Hisham I , Emir of Cordoba , moves against his northern neighbors. Bermudo I of Asturias is defeated, and the Franconian acquisitions south of the Pyrenees are also threatened as a result.
 
- Bermudo I of Asturias resigns as king in favor of his nephew Alfonso II , the chaste.
