The Abbasid Caliphate, under Hārūn ar-Raschīd, sends an expeditionary army through the Cilician Porte to the Byzantine theme of Anatolicon in Asia Minor . In September it is brought to Kopidnadon by a Byzantine army under Empress Irene . In the battle of Kopidnadon , the Abbasid side wins. Among the Byzantine victims of the battle is a certain Diogenis, who is regarded by some scholars as the historical template for the fictional hero Digenis Akritas .
