history
Seckach was first mentioned in 788 in the Lorsch Codex . During the time of the tribal duchies, the place was in the Duchy of Franconia . The Seligental monastery acquired the place in 1236. After its dissolution, Seckach came to Kurmainz in 1568 . It remained there until it came to the Principality of Leiningen in 1803 due to secularization as part of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . After its dissolution by the Rheinbund act only three years later, Seckach came to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 . On January 1, 1972, Seckach merged with Großeicholzheim and Zimmer to form the new municipality of Seckach.
Districts
- Großeicholzheim
As early as 775, Großeicholzheim was mentioned in the Lorsch Codex as "Heicholfesheim". In 1561 the place fell to the Electoral Palatinate . In 1806, Großeicholzheim also came to the Grand Duchy of Baden via the Principality of Leiningen .
- Rooms
Zimmer was first mentioned in 782 in the Lorsch Codex . In 1236 Zimmer came into the possession of the Seligental monastery. It followed the historical fate of Seckach.
Religions
While the Reformation was introduced in Großeicholzheim in the first half of the 16th century , Seckach and Zimmer remained Roman Catholic .
politics
Municipal council
The parish council normally has 14 honorary members who are elected for five years. The number of members can be increased by compensating seats (total 2019: 15 seats; 2014: 16). In addition, the mayor acts as the municipal council chairman with voting rights.
The Unechte Teilorteschahl guarantees the districts a fixed number of seats: at least seven from Seckach, at least four from Großeicholzheim, and at least three from rooms.
The 2019 local elections led to the following result (in brackets: difference to 2014):
Municipal Council 2019

Party / list | Share of votes | Seats
CDU | 76.0% (+19.9) | 11 (+2)

mayor
Thomas Ludwig has been the mayor of Seckach since 2002. He was re-elected for the second term of office on March 7, 2010 with a turnout of 41.8 percent and 97.7 percent of the valid votes cast.
coat of arms
In silver (white) an inflected red tip, covered with a five-spoke silver (white) wheel, accompanied in front by a black ibex horn (grind on the right), in the back by a black battle ax placed on a pole. The coat of arms motifs indicate the earlier local nobility and territorial rule before 1803: the ibex horn is taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Seckach, the battle ax from the coat of arms of the Lords of Stetten , while the five-spoke wheel is based on the coat of arms of the younger line of the Lords of Eicholzheim and with the tinging is to remind of the archbishopric Mainz .
Town twinning
The former inhabitants of Schüttwa / Bohemian Forest (today Šitboř) and their descendants have been sponsored since 1988 . There is also a sponsorship for the logistics battalion 461 in Walldürn .
Culture and sights
Stone cross
The delimitation of the “twice broken pasture” of the Seligental monastery was indicated by stone crosses with the symbol of a shepherd's shovel in the head part. Six of these stone crosses were still standing in the 1930s. The last of these crosses was saved from destruction by being set up at the St. Sebastian Church in Seckach in the Neckar-Odenwald district .
art
- Seckach is a "village of sculptures", there are 7 bronze sculptures, 5 sandstone sculptures and 10 concrete sculptures.
- A sculpture park with 82 works in sandstone, concrete or wood has been created in the community forest since 1987 . The Berlin sculptor couple Marianne and Paul August Wagner have been inviting friends and colleagues to a sculptor meeting since 1987. The resulting sculptures remain in the park. The community has made the forest (approx. 2 hectares) available and laid out paved paths. Part of the sculpture park is the “arena of madness”. Open-air concerts take place here regularly.
