Local elections in Baden-Württemberg 2019

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The municipal elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2019 took place at the same time as the European elections in 2019 on Sunday, May 26, 2019. They followed the relevant elections on May 25, 2014 .

The members of the municipal councils in 1101 cities and municipalities, the members of the local councils in the 410 municipalities with local constitutions , the members of the district councils in the 35 rural districts and the members of the regional assembly of the Stuttgart Region Association were newly elected for the next five years . In turn, the voters were able to collect votes for individual applicants ( cumulate ) as well as distribute their votes to candidates from different nomination lists ( variegate ). As in 2014, the seats will be based on the Sainte-Laguë or Schepers-Procedure distributed, which means that the voting share for the parties or electoral associations is taken into account as well as the votes for the individual candidates. As a specialty in Baden-Württemberg, the “ false choice of part of town ” was used to elect the representatives in the municipal bodies in around 40% of the municipalities .

Compared to the municipal elections in Baden-Württemberg in 2014, an amendment to the municipal code passed by the state parliament on October 14, 2015 meant that relationships between successful applicants no longer stood in the way of a mandate.

Nominations for election could be submitted until March 28, 2019.
