geography

history

The area around Großeicholzheim was already settled in Roman times. For an early medieval building northeast of the town in the "Birk" district, building materials that came from a Roman villa were apparently used. There were Roman settlements in the tubs “Ziegelbrunnen”, “on the Wall” and “at the Faussenhof” and probably also at the “Götzenbrunnen”; a Viergötterstein was integrated into the cemetery wall and was transferred from there to the parish garden. In 1880 he came to Karlsruhe .

Großeicholzheim was first mentioned in the Lorsch Codex in a document from the year 775 as "Heicholfesheim". The Lords of Eicholzheim formed the local nobility until the 16th century. In 1561 the place fell to the Electoral Palatinate, the place was then as a Palatinate fief until the beginning of the 19th century in the possession of the Counts of Degenfeld . In 1806, Großeicholzheim came to the Grand Duchy of Baden via the Principality of Leiningen . On January 1, 1972, Großeicholzheim was incorporated into Seckach.

Since October 2008, the Wasserschloss cultural center and the museum of the Heimatverein “Großeicholzheim and its history” have also been located there.
