Synagogue (Großeicholzheim)
The synagogue in Großeicholzheim , a district of the municipality of Seckach in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg , was built between 1885 and 1887. The synagogue is at 14 Wettgasse.
history
From the summer of 1885 on, the new building was built on the site of the old synagogue according to plans by the builder F. Kniehl from Adelsheim . On 10/11 June 1887 the ceremonial inauguration took place.
The prayer room was in the back of the building. In the front part the apartment of the prayer leaders and the room for religious instruction were housed.
During the November pogrom in 1938 , the synagogue's windows were smashed and the interior was destroyed.
After 1945 apartments were furnished in the building. A Hebrew inscription above the entrance (quotation from Isaiah 56: 7) and the foundation stone from 1886 are reminiscent of the former synagogue.
Commemoration
In 1994 a memorial plaque was attached to the synagogue building.
