Synagogue (Walldürn)
The former synagogue in Walldürn , a town in the Neckar-Odenwald district , was built around 1755 and existed until 1937.
history
After the required number of religiously mature Jewish men had been reached in around 1770, the community set up a prayer room or synagogue in the building at 3 Zunftgasse, built in 1755 . The prayer room was on the second floor of the building. However, services could not always be held because there was no minyan in the parish between 1890 and 1921 . When the number of parishioners temporarily increased again after 1920, church services were held regularly again. Until 1937, the synagogue in Walldürn was the center of the ever-shrinking Jewish community of Walldürn . In 1937 the building with the prayer room was sold and converted into a residential building. According to the resolution of the Walldürner municipal council on October 16, 1989, a memorial plaque was attached to the house of the former prayer room.
