Adolf Wilhelm Theodor von Oechelhäuser (born September 17, 1852 in Mülheim an der Ruhr , † June 3, 1923 in Dessau (Anhalt)) was a German art historian and monument conservator .

Life

Adolf von Oechelhäuser was the son of the entrepreneur Wilhelm Oechelhäuser and brother of Wilhelm von Oechelhäuser junior. He was raised to the nobility through his father in 1883.

After his school education he was an officer in the Royal Prussian Cuirassier Regiment Seydlitz . From 1887 von Oechelhäuser was a private lecturer in art history at Heidelberg University . In 1893 von Oechelhäuser was appointed to the chair of art history at the Technical University of Karlsruhe , of which he was rector in 1902/03 and 1909/10. In 1895 he gave the speech at the unveiling ceremony for the Wilhelm Lübke memorial in Karlsruhe. Under Franz Xaver Kraus , he was co-editor with Josef Durm of the series Die Kunstdenkmäler des Grand Duchy of Baden , for which he also wrote the volumes on the districts of Mosbach and Heidelberg. From 1913 to 1918, Oechelhäuser was a member of the First Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly as a member of the TH Karlsruhe .

After Georg Dehio's “Program for a Handbook of German Monuments”, which met in Dresden in 1900 , had approved the first German Day for the Preservation of Monuments , von Oechelhäuser was a member of the commission alongside Cornelius Gurlitt and Hugo Loersch , which Dehio then worked on to create the German handbook Had commissioned art monuments .

In 1902, Oechelhäuser awarded the title of " Hofrat ". When Privy Councilor died of Oechelhaeuser the age of 70 years in the Anhalt state capital Dessau , where he was on the death of his brother. In addition to this, he was buried in the family's hereditary funeral in Dessau. His estate is on the one hand in the historical archive of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg (among other things, correspondence on the "Days for Monument Preservation") and in the Federal Archives in Koblenz.

Like his father and brother, he was a member of the Dessau Masonic Lodge Esiko for the rising light .
