Simpert (Regensburg)
Simpert , also Sindbert († September 29, 791 ) was the third bishop of Regensburg from 768 to 791.
Simpert came from the Donaugau from the noble family of the Hachilinga (see also Hechlingen ). Like the other first Regensburg bishops, he was also head of the St. Emmeram monastery . During his time as bishop the dispute about own churches , which in Tassilo III. found a sponsor. Only Charlemagne saw a political interest to strengthen the position of the bishops. Simpert is nevertheless one of Tassilos III's partisans. and is later considered a supporter of Charlemagne. The chronicler Lorenz Hochwart was able to fall back on sources that are now lost to characterize the bishop, he called Simpert a "peaceful person". Nevertheless, he went with the king, the bishop of Metz Angilram and the bishop of Freising Atto in August 791 from Regensburg on a campaign against the Avars , in which Simpert fell.
