Gaubald

Gaubald , also Gawibald , Geupald or Gaibald (* around 700; † December 23, 761 ) was the first bishop of the diocese of Regensburg . He is venerated as a blessed .

He was consecrated bishop in 739 by Boniface in Regensburg . With him the official count of the Regensburg bishopric begins , before him wandering bishops were active in the region. Within his diocese, Gaubald was also subordinate to the Benedictine monastery of Sankt Emmeram as "owner" , in whose crypt he had the remains of Emmeram buried around 740 . According to tradition, Gaubald died on December 23, 761 and is buried at the entrance to the Ramwold crypt at St. Emeram .
