Michael (Regensburg)

Michael († September 23, 972 ) was the 12th Bishop of Regensburg from 942 to 972.

At the time of his appointment as bishop Michael was vicar general of the Bohemian parts of the Regensburg diocese based in Prague . Presumably he was there until the murder of Wenceslas of Bohemia . Under Duke Boleslav I , he was invited to the consecration of the St. Vitus Church. Due to the political tension in the wake of the fratricide, he accepted this invitation after a long period of hesitation. Boleslav I gave his son Strachkvas into the care of the St. Emmeram monastery . Like the other first Regensburg bishops, Michael was also head of the monastery.

In Otto the Great's army , Michael took part in the battle in Bohemia. He also took part in the battle against the Hungarians on the Lechfeld . Two important Hungarian leaders ( Bulcsú and Lehel ) were hanged in Regensburg. In the following arguments, the bishop was seriously wounded, of which the chronicler and bishop Thietmar von Merseburg reported in more detail.
