Eberhard the Swabian
Eberhard the Swabian († August 24, 1167 ) was the 23rd Bishop of Regensburg from 1165 to 1167.
Emperor Friedrich I installed Eberhard in Regensburg as bishop on his way to Austria. Almost a year had passed since the death of Hartwig II. Eberhard came from the Biberbach family. He was previously a canon in Augsburg and Vitztum in Straubing . As a supporter of the emperor, Eberhard sat down for the appointment of the antipope Paschalis III. and entered Rome with the Emperor to enforce the Pope. Despite the victory, the malaria outbreak subsequently led to massive losses in the imperial army. In addition to Bishop Eberhard, Cologne's Archbishop Rainald von Dassel fell victim to this. For the transfer of the corpse back home, Josef Staber assumes that the corpse was boiled according to the procedure at that time ( Mos teutonicus ) and only the bones were transported back in a leather container.
