Otto von Riedenburg
Otto von Riedenburg († July 6, 1089 ) was the 17th bishop of Regensburg from 1061 to 1089.
Otto von Riedenburg came from the house of the Riedenburg family , named after Riedenburg . His father Rudpert von Riedenburg was a burgrave of Regensburg . He was first canon of the cathedral in Bamberg . In 1064 he took part in a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, as did Siegfried von Mainz , Gunther von Bamberg and Wilhelm I of Utrecht . Only a fraction of the armed pilgrims returned, many were worn out by Bedouin raids and had to deal with the vow that they were not allowed to use weapons on holy days. With the beginning of the investiture controversy , the bishop was banned as a follower of Henry IV in 1073 by Alexander II and again in 1075 by Gregory VII . He attended the court conference in Worms in January 1076, which resulted in the deposition of the Pope. As a supporter of Henry IV, he put troops against the opposing kings Rudolf von Rheinfelden and Hermann von Salm . During the ensuing feud between the emperor and Ekbert II , Margrave of Meissen, the bishop was seriously wounded during the siege of Gleichen Castle and died a little later.
