Hartwig II (Regensburg)

Hartwig II. Von Spanheim († August 22, 1164 ), often referred to in older literature as Hartwig II. Von Ortenburg , was the 22nd Bishop of Regensburg and Prince-Bishop of the Regensburg Monastery from 1155 to 1164.

Hartwig II von Spanheim came from the Spanheim family and was nephew of the 19th Bishop Hartwig I von Spanheim and great-nephew of the ninth Archbishop of Magdeburg Hartwig von Spanheim . His father was the Duke of Carinthia Engelbert II , his mother Uta, daughter of Ulrichs von Passau .

In 1147 he appeared as Canon of Passau with the degree of deacon . On March 18, 1150 or 1151, Hartwig, as Canon of Salzburg, together with his brothers Engelbert III. and Rapoto I. , two farmsteads as a piece of equipment for his deceased parents at the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter . In the summer of 1155 Hartwig became Bishop of Regensburg.

In 1158 he accompanied Emperor Friedrich I to Italy. With Heinrich the Lion he led a feud in 1161 over Donaustauf Castle .

Hartwig had the All Saints' Chapel built in the cathedral cloister in Regensburg , which he chose as his burial site.
