Paschal III.
Guido von Crema (* in Lucca ; † September 20, 1168 in Rome ) was from April 22, 1164 until his death under the name of Paschal III. Antipope to Alexander III.
Born in Lucca , Guido von Crema was elected as cardinal at the instigation of Chancellor Rainald von Dassel in 1164, after the death of the imperial-minded antipope Viktor IV , by the imperial party of Friedrich Barbarossa at a council in Würzburg. He then took the name Paschalis . The traditional acts of Paschal III. express his attachment to the Staufer Empire, such as the canonization of Charlemagne in 1165 and the re-coronation of the emperor in 1167.
