Calixt III. (Antipope)
Johannes von Struma OSBVall († around 1180 in Benevento ) was named Calixt III. from 1168 to August 29, 1178 antipope to Alexander III. His name means: the most beautiful (Greek / Latin )
Coming from Arezzo , Johannes von Struma of the antipope Paschal III. appointed Cardinal Bishop of Albano . After the death of Paschal III. in 1168 John followed him as Calixt III. as Pope recognized by the party of Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa . Barbarossa, however, had to validate the pontificate of Alexander III in 1177 . recognize and could therefore to Calixt III. no longer hold on. This remained for some time as an antipope in Albano, but submitted to Pope Alexander III in 1178, who transferred the administration of the church property to him in Benevento , where Calixt III. died a little later.
