The Greek form of the name is Πασχάλης ( pas'chalis , transcribed Paschalis , Pascalis or Pashalis ) and is derived from the Greek word Πάσχα ( pás'cha ), which means both the Jewish Passover festival (on its Aramaic name פַסחָא, pasḥā , the Greek Word goes back) as the Christian Easter festival . The name therefore literally means "the paschal". Via the Latin form paschal , the name has spread in various variants, especially in the Romance-speaking area. Pascal is the French form of the name.
