Wafio's main plant in Reutlingen

The Wafios AG is an engineering company with headquarters in Reutlingen . The company develops, designs and manufactures technically sophisticated machines for the wire and pipe processing industry as well as for cold forging.

history

Beginnings

The forerunner of the company was founded by Ernst Wagner in Pfullingen in 1893 ; After numerous renovations and extensions in Pfullingen, Ernst Wagner acquired today's headquarters in Reutlingen in 1909 . In 1910, Hans Ficker joined the company as a partner, who from then on managed the commercial fortunes of the company, which was now called "Wagner & Ficker Maschinenfabrik". A milestone was set in 1912 with the first spring coiling machine for Europe. On the other hand, there was competition in the field of braiding machines, almost at the same time Otto Schmid from Stuttgart and Wagner & Ficker brought the first automatic braiding machines onto the market. In 1914 Wafios was founded (for Wagner, Ficker and O. Schmid).

1945-1965

The name Otto Schmid is associated with the reconstruction of the headquarters after it was completely destroyed at the end of World War II. In the beginning it was wage and repair jobs that made the new start possible. The company was rebuilt step by step. Confiscated patents were replaced by new constructions ready for production, where ruins were, new production halls were built over two decades. In the course of the necessary reorganization, representatives of the three founding families and the increasing number of shareholders over the coming years determined the company's fortunes via administrative and later supervisory boards.

1965-1990

The former textile factory in Marktredwitz in the Fichtelgebirge was saved from closure in 1966 and is still part of the company and production network of the Wafios Group. Internationally, subsidiaries were established in the USA , Canada , France , England , Spain , Brazil and Italy . and some of them are still part of the group of companies today. In 1967 the following balance can be drawn: 1500 employees work in five plants and offer the global market the extensive range of machines in the field of wire processing. In the years that followed, the foundation stone for today's Wafios Group was laid through numerous collaborations and investments.

1991 until today

In the years 1988–2001, numerous strategic takeovers followed for the continuous expansion of the wire processing segment, particularly with regard to cold forging. These are the companies Hilgeland (screws), Nutap (nuts), now trading under Wafios Umformtechnik, as well as Meyer, Roth & Pastor (MRP) in the chain machine sector in 1988 and Witels-Albert in wire straightening in 1998. The entry into mechanical engineering for tube processing in 2000 marked another milestone at the turn of the century. In 2003 the Pulzer pipe bending program was taken over from Trumpf. Company foundations in China and Mexico mark the most recent efforts from 2012 to 2016 to open up new markets.
