Lorenz Hochwart

Lorenz Hochwart (also Hochwarth or Hohewart ; * around 1493 in Tirschenreuth ; † February 20, 1570 in Regensburg ) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman , theologian , historian and lawyer .

Life

Hochwart was a son of middle-class parents. He studied for seven years at the University of Leipzig , where he obtained a master's degree in the liberal arts in 1522 or 1523 . It was also there that he made friends with the philosopher Johann Horak. He then became a teacher at the cathedral school in Freising . In 1526 and 1527 he worked in Ingolstadt . There he gave, among other things, theological and legal lectures at the university . In 1527 he moved to his hometown as a pastor, where he stayed for about five years.

Hochwart was appointed Master of Theology by Cardinal Campeggi in 1532 and he also received a position as cathedral preacher at Eichstätter Dom , and in 1534 at Regensburg Cathedral . Also in 1534 he was at the University of Ingolstadt to the doctor of law doctorate . In 1536 he was appointed canon in Regensburg , in 1549 he was given this position in Passau and became Passau cathedral preacher . In 1551 and 1552 he was sent to the Council of Trento by the Regensburg Prince-Bishop Georg von Pappenheim .

Hochwart left behind some historical works.
