history

For centuries, Oelze was an independent municipality with an elected council and mayor.

The houses used to be on the left side of the Schwarza. Therefore, the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , administrative district Gehren until 1918 , while the neighboring communities Oberhammer and Katzhütte belonged to the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . In 1910 Oelze had 1,354 inhabitants.

In 1871 the community of Oelze consisted of several groups of houses.

With the district division law passed by the Thuringian state parliament on July 16, 1922, the places Oelze and Katzhütte were assigned to the district of Rudolstadt. On October 1, 1922, Oberhammer was incorporated into Oelze. In 1939 1572 people lived in the place. After the Second World War , the major socio-political changes in Thuringia also resulted in the need for a new territorial structure. The law to change the district and community boundaries of April 26, 1950 resulted in the fact that, with effect from July 1, 1950, the communities of Katzhütte and Oelze were merged to form Katzhütte. When the Neuhaus am Rennweg district was established for political reasons in 1952 , Katzhütte and the Oelze district were incorporated into this new district.
