The Schwarzatalstrasse , officially Landesstrasse 1112 (abbreviated L1112 ) is an important state road in southern Thuringia . It leads from Bad Blankenburg through the Schwarzatal to the Rennsteig and on via Schalkau to the Bavarian-Thuringian border at Froschgrundsee , where it merges into the Bavarian state road to Rödental . The Schwarzatalstraße is one of the most scenic routes in Thuringia, especially among motorcyclists. Its total length is 62 kilometers, 35 kilometers of which run directly in the Schwarza valley.

In the 22-kilometer section between Schwarzburg and Katzhütte , Schwarzatalstrasse is part of the Thuringian Porcelain Route holiday route .

course

The Schwarzatalstraße begins in the city center of Bad Blankenburg on the federal highway 88 ( Ilmenau - Rudolstadt ) not far from the cities of Saalfeld and Rudolstadt. It then leads in tight curves through the meandering breakthrough valley of the Schwarza to Schwarzburg . This is followed by the villages Sitzendorf , Mellenbach-Glasbach and Katzhütte , which each stretch along the road for several kilometers as street villages in the narrow Schwarzatal. South of Katzhütte, the L1112 originally led to Goldisthal , but there it was relocated to the eastern slope of the valley between 1998 and 2003 as part of the construction of the Goldisthal PSW , which it leads up in three lanes and with a 12% gradient in numerous bends. The next place on the route is Scheibe-Alsbach , where the Schwarzatalstraße leaves the Schwarzatal and leads up to the Rennsteig . It reaches this in Limbach, a district of Steinheid at a height of 800 meters. The federal highway 281 runs from Saalfeld to Eisfeld on the Rennsteig . On the south side of the Thuringian Forest / Thuringian Slate Mountains, it meanders down the Grümpental to Theuern. There is the only gold museum in Germany, which documents the former gold mining in Grümpental. In Theuern, the state road leaves the Grümpental in a westerly direction and leads via Truckenthal to the city of Schalkau , where it crosses the B 89 Eisfeld– Sonneberg . From Schalkau it leads south through the Itztal to Almerswind , where it reaches the Bavarian border. On the Bavarian side, it will be continued as State Road 2206 , where, after nine kilometers in Rödental, it is connected to the Federal Road 999 Coburg –Sonneberg, which was released in December 2011 .

Transport policy importance

The Schwarzatalstrasse is the main artery of the entire Schwarza region. Between Katzhütte (the endpoint of the A 71 coming national road 1047) and Limbach (branch road to Steinachtal) it is particularly highly frequented, since in this section the flows of Erfurt bundle / Ilmenau to Sonnenberg and from Schwarzatal. Overall, its northern part up to the Rennsteig is more important than the part south of the Rennsteig.
