Community structure

The lower part of the village is the larger part, it is to the left of the Schwarza on the main street of the village. There are also the local administration and the church.

history

On November 19, 1370, the place was first mentioned in a certificate of inheritance as Syczedorff . The place name probably goes back to a Count Sizzo von Kevernburg , who lived in the 11th century and who is considered to be the progenitor of the Schwarzburg counts. From 1370 until today, the spelling of the name has changed only slightly: in 1370 wrote one Syczedorff , 1465 Sictzendorff , 1740 Sizzendorf and since 1850 Sitzendorf .

The most important branch of business in the village was ore mining, which was already predominant in the Middle Ages, and saltpeter boiling as well as pitch and smelting works were operated. Cobalt was also processed from 1727 to 1826 . In 1760, Georg Heinrich Macheleid in Sitzendorf was the first to succeed in producing porcelain after Böttger, but his factory was relocated to Volkstedt as early as 1762, so that porcelain production in Sitzendorf only gained importance after the establishment of a new factory in 1850. The beginning of tourism in Sitzendorf dates back to the second half of the 19th century, which increased after the construction of the Schwarzatalbahn . Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

During the Second World War , women and men from the occupied countries as well as military internees from Italy and France had to do forced labor : on a construction site of the Leuna-Werke , in the porcelain factory , in agriculture, in the Albert Erhardt glass factory , in the Hermann Heunemann gardening center and at Construction of the marine home . The grave monument of a Polish slave laborer in the cemetery is the only reminder of this part of history.

During the GDR era, Sitzendorf was particularly the location for porcelain and tool production. A children's holiday camp in the form of a tent city was also maintained here.

Natural monuments

The geotope near Sitzendorf, at the entrance to the Sorbitztal : The "rock geotope" near Sitzendorf was created 480 million years ago in the Ordovician through marine deposits. In the Carboniferous , about 340 million years ago, it was tilted and folded during the Variscan mountain formation. The geotope ( 360  m ) gives an insight into the tectonics and stratigraphy of the Schwarzburg saddle with its gold-bearing quartz veins in the Schwarza. Today it shows a very clear stair and kink fold.

Other sights can be hiked on the Heinrich Cotta nature trail .

Regular events

Easter market at the Farm Museum

The fair , which takes place annually on the 3rd weekend in September, is just as much a traditional highlight as the bathing festival in June.

Under the leadership of the Sitzendorfer Carnevals Verein and the fire brigade association, other local associations also participate in the preparation and implementation of the events. A culinary highlight is the Lawerworschtkongreß (liver sausage congress ), which takes place at the beginning of October , at which the Lawerworschtkönig is crowned.

Viewpoints

Economy and Transport

As in many other places in the region, Sitzendorf has a traditional porcelain factory with a demonstration street. Furthermore, in Sitzendorf (as in all other places in the Schwarzatal) there used to be various hammer mills in which mining products were processed. In the 1950s, the charcoal burning on the Pocherbrücke was given up.

Gold mining

The location of the gold stage from August 5, 1800

Sitzendorf has always been closely associated with ore mining in the Schwarzatal. It is no longer known exactly when mining of the gold deposits began. In 1530, 20 unions in the Schwarzatal were entrusted with soap factories. A large number of reports from the end of the Thirty Years' War to our times prove that even in later times there were repeated efforts to revive the once extensive medieval gold panning in the area of the Schwarzatal. Of interest is the discovery of a richer gold specimen in the rock near the Pocher bridge between Schwarzburg and Sitzendorf on August 5, 1800.

traffic

Nostalgia and modern times

Sitzendorf has road connections to Bad Blankenburg and Katzhütte through the Schwarzatal as well as roads via Rohrbach to Saalfeld and via Unterweißbach to Neuhaus .

Since 1900 the place has had a rail connection to the Schwarzatalbahn Katzhütte - Rottenbach .
