geography

Allendorf lies on a desk-shaped plateau between the Schwarzatal in the south and Rinnetal in the north. It drops steeply south of the village into the Schwarzatal and is forested with maples and lime trees , while north of the village it slopes gently into the Rinnetal . This area is unwooded and serves as pasture for cattle.

The village was first mentioned in 1196-1210 or 1221.

Not far north of the village is the Holy Mountain . North below the summit is the Bear Cave, where the bones of deer, wild horses and wild cats have been found. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

In the village there was a manor with 100 hectares of farmland, which was leased from Walter Oertel in 1923. After the Second World War, the operation was subject to the development of agriculture in the GDR.

Allendorf has been part of the Mittleres Schwarzatal administrative community since 1993 . After its dissolution on January 1, 2019, Königsee is a fulfilling municipality for Allendorf.

Economy and Infrastructure

Most of the people from Allendorf work in the surrounding cities, for example in Königsee-Rottenbach or Saalfeld .

The largest company is Königsee Implantate und Instrumente zur Osteosynthese GmbH with around 140 employees in the Aschau district. The second largest company is the Metallverarbeitung Bach company in Allendorf with around 30 employees. Turned, milled and bent parts made of metallic materials are manufactured and sold there. There are also some smaller craft businesses. Tourism is an additional source of income . Sheep and cattle breeding were also important in the past.

From Allendorf roads lead to Aschau , Bechstedt , Königsee-Rottenbach, Oberhain , Schwarzburg and Unterköditz . On June 27, 1900, the place got a railway connection at the Bechstedt-Trippstein station of the Schwarzatalbahn one kilometer to the east .
