Deesbach is a municipality in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia . The community belongs to the administrative community Schwarzatal , which has its administrative seat in the city of Schwarzatal .
geography
Deesbach in the quiet Deesbachtal is located in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1465 as Tespach . The small place belonged to the parish of Oberweißbach. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
In 1919, Deesbach, together with the municipalities of Lichtenhain , Oberweißbach , Cursdorf and the Free State of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt , helped found the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn-Aktiengesellschaft , although the place is not directly on the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn route .

Special
According to their own information, Deesbach has the “steepest street in Germany” with a 25.30% gradient and the second-steepest “steepest local street” with a 22.65% gradient. On the Oberweißbacher Straße in Deesbach there is an annual folding bike hill climb on the steepest street. However, a Hessian radio station found out in 2017 that there is a street in Ranstadt-Dauernheim in Hesse, the Hasenpfad, with an incline of 29%. The steepest street in Germany is no longer in Deesbach.
