Panorama of Oberweißbach

Oberweißbach / Thuringian Forest (officially: Oberweißbach / Thür. Wald ) is a district of the rural municipality of Schwarzatal in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia ( Germany ).

geography

Oberweißbach is a state-approved resort in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park in the Weißbachtal.

Colloquially the land is as Raanz referred, based on the implement of humpback pharmacist called Olitätenhändler that have shaped this region from the 16th to the 20th century. The term Raanz = "satchel" stands for a special form of reef made of leather developed in Oberweißbach. The oil trade was ultimately also the driving force behind the construction of the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn , which connected the villages on the plateau to the transport network.

Oberweißbach / Thuringian Forest can be further divided into the two districts:

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1370. It was named after a body of water running there. Before 1600 it was a fiefdom of the Lords of Greußen and was then bought by the Princes of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt . It was an early center for the production and trade of olities , and in the 19th century glass-blowing in particular emerged . In 1799 there were 1030 inhabitants, in 1900 there were 2081. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt.

The Oberweißbacher Bergbahn was built from 1919 to 1923 . In 1932 Oberweißbach was granted city rights. Even during the GDR era, glass production remained the city's defining industry.

In 1994 Oberweißbach came to the district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt. In 1994 it also became a member and seat of the Bergbahnregion / Schwarzatal administrative association with the communities of Cursdorf , Deesbach , Katzhütte , Oberweißbach and Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle .

On January 1, 2019, the communities of Mellenbach-Glasbach and Meuselbach-Schwarzmühle merged with the city of Oberweißbach / Thuringian Forest to form the city and rural community of Schwarzatal, which at the same time became a member and seat of the newly formed administrative community Schwarzatal .

Incorporations
