Obstfelderschmiede is a district of Melle-Glasbach in the rural community of city Schwarzatal in Saalfeld-Rudolstadt in Thuringia . The place is known nationwide as the valley station of the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn .
location
The forest village lies in the valley of the Schwarza on the state road 1112 ; to the right and left are the wooded slopes of the Thuringian Forest . In the valley, the Schwarzatalbahn runs from Rottenbach to Katzhütte with the Obstfelderschmiede stop and the valley station of the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn .
history
In 1456 the settlement was first mentioned as a smithy on the lower Schwarza . The current name can be traced back to the name of the owner family Obstfelder, which was documented from 1528. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
In 1922 the Oberweißbacher Bergbahn was opened, which has its valley station in Obstfelderschmiede. In this context, the place was also given a stop at the Schwarzatalbahn, which has been running through the district since 1899. In 1923 the villages of Blumenau , Zirkel, Mellenbach, Glasbach and Obstfelderschmiede were combined to form the municipality of Mellenbach-Glasbach. On January 1, 2019, the municipality merged with two others to form the rural municipality of the town of Schwarzatal.
