Gerhard Botz (politician)
Gerhard Botz (born September 15, 1955 in Rudolstadt ) is a German politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After graduating from high school in 1974 at an extended secondary school (EOS) in Rudolstadt, Botz did his military service with the NVA and began studying melioration and plant production at the University of Rostock in 1976 , which he finished in 1981 as a qualified engineer for melioration. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Forage Production Paulinenaue at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in the GDR until 1990 . Subsequently, in 1991, he briefly served as an EC consultant in the Thuringian Ministry of Agriculture. From January to 2005, Botz worked as a research assistant at the Thuringian State Institute for Agriculture.
Gerhard Botz is married and has two children.
Political party
In December 1989 Botz became a member of the newly founded Social Democratic Party of the GDR . Botz has been a member of the SPD state executive in Thuringia since 1992 and was deputy state chairman from 1994 to 2002.
MP
From March to October 1990 Botz belonged to the first freely elected People's Chamber in the GDR. Botz was also one of the 144 MPs elected by the People's Chamber who became members of the German Bundestag on October 3, 1990 . After the Bundestag election in 1990 , however, he left the Bundestag again in December 1990.
Botz then belonged from 1991 to 1994 as observer to the European Parliament and was 1994 to 1999, finally a member of the European Parliament .
Subsequently, Gerhard Botz was a member of the Landtag of Thuringia from 1999 to 2004 .
From 2005 to 2009 he was again a member of the German Bundestag. He had entered the German Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Sonneberg - Saalfeld-Rudolstadt - Saale-Orla-Kreis . In the 2005 Bundestag election , he received 30.2% of the first votes .
Since 2014, Botz has been the managing director of the Thuringia Municipal Education Agency.
