Schwarzburg is a municipality in the Schwarzatal in the Thuringian district of Saalfeld-Rudolstadt . The community belongs to the administrative community Schwarzatal , which has its administrative seat in the city of Schwarzatal .
location
Schwarzburg is located in the Thuringian Forest on the northern roof of the mountains and on the Schwarza River. The state road 1112 connects Schwarzburg with Bad Blankenburg and the surrounding area.
Neighboring communities are Allendorf , the city of Bad Blankenburg , Bechstedt , Döschnitz , Saalfeld / Saale and Sitzendorf .
history
It was first mentioned in 1071 as "Swartzinburg" in a border description of the Orlasenke .
The village below the castle grew through the use of water power (grinding mill, cutting mill, Lohmühle , iron hammer ) until the 19th century as a small industrial center. Especially in the High Middle Ages it was an important place in the Schwarzatal due to gold panning ( soap gold ). After the iron hammer was abandoned in 1846, there was a large wave of emigration (more than 20% of the population) to North America. Afterwards tourism brought an upswing. The original fraternity , Ludwig Bechstein and Romantic painters praised the wild and romantic valley of the Schwarza (Saale) . Even Goethe, in a letter to Charlotte von Stein dated July 5, 1781, found the valley worth mentioning: “NB. from Schwarzburg to Blanckenburg is an excellent route for the blacks, through a deep valley between rock and forest walls. ”In 1887, the Schwarzburgbund was founded in Schwarzburg , an association of Christian, color-bearing, non-striking student associations . At that time, Schwarzburg (in the Saxon idiom) was known as the "Berle of Düringen".
Schwarzburg achieved special historical importance when President Friedrich Ebert signed the Weimar Constitution on August 11, 1919 while on vacation . This act probably took place in the hotel "Weißer Hirsch", at least not in the castle. Between the hotel and his villa "Schwarzaburg" - where Ebert lived - a simple memorial stone was made recognizable on a lawn. The inscription reads:
In 1944, 30-40 schoolchildren were accommodated in the Schloßberg Hotel as part of the Kinderland transfer . This dispatch took place since September 27, 1940 according to a circular from Martin Bormann with the note “By order of the Führer”. The execution of the action was organized by the Hitler Youth leadership and had the task of protecting the children from the bomb-prone areas in a "peaceful" environment. The KLV warehouse in the Schloßberg Hotel was occupied by students and their teachers from the Lessing Gymnasium in Düsseldorf. The hotel was then run by the Schildbach family.

Culture and sights
The Black Castle was the 12th century ancestral home of the Earls of Schwarzenburg . After repeated division into different lines, the two main lines Schwarzburg-Sondershausen (extinguished in 1909) and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt were created in 1599, which were elevated to the rank of imperial prince in 1697 and 1710 . Schwarzburg belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt until 1918 . The renovated armory of the palace was temporarily open to the public on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Schwarzburgbund (Whitsun 2012). The castle building was renovated.
In the former pedagogy (private school from 1919, which led to the secondary school leaving certificate and the Abitur) a state forest school was set up in 1946. In 1950 it became a technical college, 1968 an engineering school, and since 1992 a technical college for forestry . The University of Applied Sciences was jointly operated by the Free States of Saxony and Thuringia as an internal administrative training facility for the upscale forest service and closed with the end of training in the last academic year in 2008. In the north of Schwarzburg there is the freely accessible "Forest Botanical Garden Schwarzburg".
A little above the city is the station building from 1900, it is the most beautiful and most elaborate of the Schwarzatalbahn . The roof is covered with colored glazed tiles. A separate extension was built on the west side for the Schwarzburg princes . The station building has been closed since June 1, 1992 and will only function as a stopping point after the line has been reopened. It is available from the Faller company as a model in H0 and N gauges .
The public access to the so-called Ehrenhain is located near the entrance to the lower Schwarzburg valley. There are two memorial stones here. On the one hand for the fallen of the community and on the other hand for those of the Schwarzburgbund .
Furthermore, Schwarzburg offers hobby fishermen ( trout , fly fishing ) a wide range at favorable conditions.
