Florence Friedrich Sigismund (born March 23, 1791 in Schwarzburg ; † November 3, 1877 in Blankenburg ) was a German lawyer and poet.

Life

His grandfather Johann Heinrich Sigismund was a school teacher in Schmalenbuche , his father Johann Marcus Sigismund a teacher in Schwarzburg, later in Schmalenbuche and finally in Blankenburg. Florence Friedrich Sigismund initially trained as a porcelain painter, but then attended high school in Rudolstadt and studied law at the University of Jena from 1812 to 1815 . He embarked on a legal career and initially became a notary and actuary in Stadtilm . In 1829 he was a bailiff at the office Blankenburg added, and soon received the title of schwarzenburg-rudolstädtischen Judicial Council . When the office of Blankenburg was lifted in 1868, he retired.

He translated various works from French, was interested in botany and was active in the Rudolstadt Masonic Lodge . He wrote poems and local historical treatises that appeared in various newspapers and magazines. The best known was his poem Wanderlust , which was published in 1847 in the sixth issue of the anthology Christmas tree for poor children edited by Friedrich Hofmann . This text became popular in the setting by Friedrich Wilhelm Möller from the 1950s as a popular hit under the title My father was a wanderer ; In early music editions the name of the poet was incorrectly given in the spelling Fl [orenz] Siegesmund .

His wife Friederike was the daughter of the late mayor Fischer in Blankenburg. There were seven children from this marriage. His son Berthold Sigismund (1819–1864) became a doctor, educator, poet and local politician.
