Paolo and Vittorio Taviani
Paolo Taviani (born November 8, 1931 in San Miniato , Italy ) and Vittorio Taviani (born September 20, 1929 in San Miniato, Italy, † April 15, 2018 in Rome ) were two Italian film directors who, until Vittorio's death in 2018, always as Brother couple have occurred.
Life
Paolo Taviani studied in Pisa. Vittorio Taviani first studied law in Pisa . In 1962, the brothers made their debut with a short film under the influence of Roberto Rossellini .
Their first independent film together was I sovversivi (The Subversives) from 1967, in which, among other things, the events of 1968 were anticipated. In 1977 the brothers became internationally known with the feature film Padre Padrone - My Father, My Lord ; he won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival that same year . In 1982, in the feature film The Night of San Lorenzo , they told an episode from the resistance fight of the Resistance against the fascist militia in 1944. Impressive and not without absurd comedy is shown how young men from the same village get on both sides of the war and then on each other have to shoot.
In 2012 she won for Caesar Must Die the Golden Bear of the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival . The Tavianis accompanied for her film for six months prisoners in a high security wing of the Roman prison Rebibbia, where these samples for the Shakespeare -Stück Julius Caesar were holding.
In April 2018, Vittorio Taviani died in Rome after a long illness.
