The Resurrection (original title: Resurrezione ) is an Italian-French-German feature film from 2001. The film was based on the novel Resurrection of Lev Tolstoy .
action
The pretty Katyusha earns her living as a prostitute. She is accused of murder, and Prince Dimitrij Nekhludov has to judge her as one of the jury members. Dimitrij recognizes his childhood love in the woman, with whom he had been in love several years ago during a summer, but which he had never seen again. Katyusha was expecting a child from him, but she lost it. Then she started working as a prostitute.
The jury came to the conclusion that Katyusha was innocent. When she is convicted of a formal error, Dimitrij tries to enforce her pardon. Katyusha is meanwhile deported to Siberia . Dimitrij follows her and proposes to her. Despite the positive decision about Katyusha's pardon, which she will soon receive from Moscow , the two lovers do not get together. Katyusha doesn't believe Dimitrij's honest love, but thinks it comes from his guilty conscience. Therefore she marries the political prisoner Simonson.
