Life

He made his debut in 1885 at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in the title role of Charles Gounod's opera " Faust ". He later sang in Bologna, Florence, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at the Drury Lane Theater in London and at the Covent Garden Opera London, in Madrid, at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, in Montevideo, Barcelona, ​​at the Grand Opéra Paris , in Brussels, Lisbon and at the Metropolitan Opera New York.

In contrast to his thirteen-year-old colleague Enrico Caruso , whose work was dominated by the then emerging verismo , de Lucia was still one of the bel canto singers. He recorded over 400 records. In 1921 de Lucia sang “Pietà, Signore” by Alessandro Stradella at Enrico Caruso's funeral .
