Gianni Spano

Gianni Spano (* 29. September 1954 in Rome , Italy as Giovanni Francesco Maria Spanò ) is a Swiss rock singer, composer and guitarist.

Live and act

Gianni Spano grew up in Vienna , Austria and is based in Bern , Switzerland , where he was still studying medicine. He is considered the "grandfather" of the Gurten Festival . It was he who first came up with and realized the idea in 1974 of organizing a "mini open air" with a Rumpelstilz concert on Bern's local mountain . Spano had to convince the authorities (including the municipal nursery of Bern) that this would not cause any damage. He paved the way for the Gurten Folk Festival, which took place in 1977.

• House guitarist for Peter, Sue & Marc and Guy Magey (French chansonnier, popularized by Vive La Mustache in the 70s, then produced by Eric Merz and Andreas Vollenweider )
• In the 80s solo deal with music distribution (label Big Mouth), tours with Chi Coltrane and Randy Newman . Appearances on Swiss television (carousel, change of scene)
• 1983 Appearance in the grand finale of the Gurten Festival Imagine ... together with Span, Polo Hofer, Hanery Ammann, Marianna Polistena and others. A.

• Compositions for other artists, including Sue Schell
• Composing and working as a studio musician for commercials
• Started my own project again at the end of the nineties
• Collaboration with Peter von Siebenthal (ex- Züri West ), Christoph Kohli (Span), Matthias Kohli (Span), Georges Müller (Span), HP Brüggemann (Polos ButterBand) and others. A.

• April 2008 first place in the Gurtenfestival voting with an appearance on the festival's forest stage
• Also active in the musical industry as a composer since 2008 (Musical Mina and Lucy , first performance at the end of 2009, Studio Bühne Bern Theater Remise)
