The deesbach forebay is the Leibis-light in front. It is located in the Lichtetal, near the villages of Deesbach , Lichte , Meura and Unterweißbach in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district , Thuringia . It was put into operation in 1991 and dams the lights .
Use / function
The construction of the Leibis-Lichte dam did not begin until long after the pre- dam was completed. However, this was planned from the beginning as a pre-lock and not for the direct drinking water supply. It temporarily took over the function of a dam , because from 1992 to 2005 over 100,000 inhabitants in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district and in the Saale-Orla district had to be supplied with drinking water from it. In 2005 the permit for the temporary extraction of raw water expired. After the Leibis-Lichte dam went into operation in 2008, the Deesbach dam finally took over its actual function as a preliminary dam (pre-cleaning, sedimentation). It is now backed up on the air side by the main barrier.
Dam / structures
The dam is a rubble dam made of Posidonia slate with asphalt concrete - outer skin seal made of two sealing layers, a base layer and a drainage layer. The flood relief consists of a crown overflow on the right slope with a collecting and weft channel that leads into a stilling basin . The raw water was taken through 2 inlets, one of which has a swiveling pipe with which 18,000 m³ per day could be taken. The water was led to the Zeigerheim drinking water treatment plant near Bad Blankenburg via a 3.5 km long DN 500 steel pipeline, which was laid at the bottom of the current reservoir of the main dam, and via the eleven kilometers of "Lichtstollen" I and II the raw water of the Leibis / Lichte dam is cleaned.
Others
The pre-lock is also often used for fishing . However, it can only be reached on foot or by bike, along the main dam from Unterweißbach or along the tributaries from Deesbach. A path is also signposted from the Froebel Tower .
