history

The Thuringian forest village was first mentioned in a document on November 19, 1370. There was once an ironworks in Mankenbach . There was limited agriculture and forestry in addition to the oil trade . Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

On July 1, 1950, Mankenbach was incorporated into Oberhain. The place has been part of the city of Königsee since January 1, 2019.

The inhabitants of the original village of Leibis were relocated in 1994 near the Mankenbachsmühle from Unterweißbach to the village of Neu-Leibis . Today the inn in the Mankenbach Nature Park offers holiday apartments. Agricultural and forestry work continues.
