Hengelbach is a district of the city of Königsee in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

The place is located in a basin of the Hengelbach at 440 m above sea level. The surrounding area, rich in grassland and forest, is built on shell limestone and sandy soils.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1106 and belonged to the Paulinzella monastery . In 1127 there is evidence of a parish in the village. In 1349 and 1469 a noble family von Hengelbach was mentioned. In 1423 the Counts of Schwarzburg sold the monastery all rights and interest from the village. In the Peasants' War in 1525 , the place, together with the other monastery villages, opposed the abbot as their lord of interest. After the Reformation , the monastery was closed in 1534, and its possessions came to the Counts of Schwarzburg. Later the Paulinzella Office was formed, to which former monastery villages belonged.

It is known that in 1543 Hengelbach consisted of 11 houses. In 1683 the village church was rebuilt. In 1711 the village had 50 inhabitants and a shepherd. In 1787 51 people continued to live here in 13 houses. In 1856 all feudal taxes and interest were redeemed. For the year 1863, it is said that the village still consisted of 13 houses in which 99 people lived in 15 families, including 13 school children, 21 servants, 4 day laborers and 6 craftsmen. At that time the village owned 5 horses, 21 oxen, 44 cows, 47 young cattle, 700 sheep, 10 goats and 38 pigs. In 1880 it already had 16 houses and a pub. In 1882 it was decided to lift the night watch in the community.

In 1895 the Stadtilm-Rottenbach railway line was opened. In 1903 the last forced labor was done in the village. In the First World War there were 5 dead, in the Second 4 dead and 4 missing. Since 1922 there was electricity in the village, since 1926 - water pipes.

After the war, two LPGs were founded in the village : 1955 (Type III) and 1958 (Type I), since 1954 there was a consumer outlet.

The abundance of wood is still evident today in some half-timbered houses and outbuildings. Paulinzella , Gösselborn and Hengelbach now form a parish. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .
