The church

The Protestant village church Hengelbach is in the hallway of the Hengelbach district of the city of Königsee in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish of Griesheim in the parish of Arnstadt-Ilmenau of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church was built in 1683 on older foundation walls, probably a chapel , outside the village on a hill. To the south, close to it, the connection path from Paulinzella Monastery to the economic center of the monastery once led past the Neusis farm. Today this is the Neusis desert .

The current church tower was only built in 1804. On March 24, 1875 the roof was re-covered.

At the end of 1970 the service had to be stopped because of dilapidation.

After the political change in East Germany , repair work began in 1995. The wall crowns could be repaired. The roof was renovated and the church tower was renewed.

The first service took place again for the 2002 Reformation Festival.

In the spring of 2003 the altar was inaugurated.
