Karl von Zahn

Karl Gustav von Zahn (born December 12, 1877 in Leipzig , † August 20, 1944 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) was a German lawyer and ministerial official .

Von Zahn was born in Leipzig in 1877 as the son of Wilhelm von Zahn , who later became vice principal of the Thomas School . His mother, the daughter of a German lithographer, came from Saint Petersburg . The historian Walter Goetz and the New Testament scholar Theodor von Zahn were among his extensive relatives . Von Zahn attended the St. Thomas School in Leipzig. After graduating from high school, he studied law at the University of Leipzig , the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin . He was born in Leipzig in 1902 with his dissertation Which state structures would the constitution of the German Empire of March 28, 1849 and the so-called Erfurt Union constitution have brought into existence? to the Dr. jur. PhD. He then became a private lecturer in criminal law and criminal procedure law at the University of Leipzig. From 1920 to 1933 he was Ministerialrat in the Reich Ministry of the Interior in Berlin and later senior archivist at the Reichsarchiv in Potsdam. Since 1919 he was married to the women's rights activist Agnes von Zahn-Harnack , the daughter of the well-known theologian Adolf von Harnack .

Karl von Zahn was buried in the Zehlendorf cemetery (field 008-380). Here he rests next to his wife.
