The demarcation is docked and partially wooded at a distance from the town. The altitude fluctuates around 600 meters above sea level. history

The place with its 200 inhabitants was first mentioned in a document on November 19, 1370. Michael Köhler writes about the two villages that the name Hain refers to places of cultic origin. Field names testify to mining for iron, copper, silver and gold. There was also agriculture and forestry as well as tourism. Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

On July 1, 1950, Unterhain was incorporated into Oberhain. The place has been part of the city of Königsee since January 1, 2019.

In Unterhain there is a youth center as well as guest houses and holiday homes.
