Wittgendorf is a district of the city of Saalfeld / Saale in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

Wittgendorf is located above the Sorbitztal in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park . The highest mountain in the municipality is the Talberg with a height of 602 m. Neighboring communities are Volkmannsdorf , Rohrbach and Döschnitz . The Elschnitztalbach rises below the village and flows into the Sorbitz at Rohrbach after four kilometers . Nearby cities are Saalfeld / Saale (14 km), Rudolstadt (20 km), Jena (60 km) and Erfurt with 70 km.

history

Wittgendorf was first mentioned in a document in 1267, making it one of the oldest villages in the area. It used to belong to the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt ( sovereignty ). In 1970, the place was the first municipality in the Gera district to be awarded the title of “state-approved resort”.

On July 6, 2018, the Wittgendorf community was incorporated into the city of Saalfeld / Saale. Before that, she was part of the Mittleres Schwarzatal administrative community based in Sitzendorf .

Around Wittgendorf is the former border between the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen . At the same time, the more than 200 year old and 50 cm high boundary stones mark the corridor boundary between Wittgendorf and the surrounding communities.

Sports

The Wittgendorf volunteer fire brigade was Thuringian champions in the fire fighting attack in 2003 and 2008 .

Regular events

Regular events in May and September are the Auebadpokal (Auebadpokal) organized by the volunteer fire brigade during fire fighting, the funfair , the Backhaus Festival and the maypole with subsequent mayhem.
