Windmill in Braunsdorf

history

The small village was first mentioned in a document on January 8, 1441. Since that time the place has been Pfarrdorf for the Schwarzburgischen places Dittrichshütte, Burkersdorf , Dittersdorf and the neighboring Oberwirbach . Since 1865 there has been a tower windmill in the area around the village , which was operated until 1953. It was restored between 1974 and 1980.

Until 1918 the place belonged to the sovereignty of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

The elementary school and a church recreational home are located in Braunsdorf, which became the sponsorship of the YMCA Thuringia at the end of 2012 . Since the 1960s, the place name has been closely linked to the concept of church open work and the resulting Church from Below , which was largely shaped by the local pastor Walter Schilling .

Attractions

The Protestant village church built in 1806 replaces a previous medieval building. The nave with the plastered gallery hall is surmounted by a high east tower. The church was renovated in 2000 with the support of the German Foundation for Monument Protection .
