Garnsdorf is a district of Saalfeld in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

The district of Garnsdorf is located southwest of the Saalfeld city center on the federal road 281 to Arnsgereuth and further. The transition of the northern roofing of the Thuringian Forest begins at the current outskirts .

history

It was first mentioned in a document in December 1074. In 1922, Garnsdorf was incorporated into Saalfeld.

Economy and tourism

The fairy grottoes , a former mine, are located near the village . Nowadays it is used as a show mine and is visited by around 160,000 tourists every year. The Thuringia clinics "Georgius Agricola" Saalfeld GmbH, teaching hospital of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, have a defining effect on the location .
