Village church

Volkmannsdorf was first mentioned in a document on June 29, 1414 (according to the Coburger-Saalfelder II. Document book, 55). The village is based on the year 1348. The history of the place is connected to the monks of the former Benedictine monastery in Saalfeld . They made the forest arable and created a livelihood for people on the heights of the forest. Today 297 people live in the village.

From 1991 to 1996 the place belonged to the administrative community Saalfelder Höhe . With the conversion of this into the unified municipality of Saalfelder Höhe on January 1, 1997, Volkmannsdorf became a district of this. This was incorporated into Saalfeld / Saale on July 6, 2018.
