Birkenheide is a hamlet in the town of Saalfeld / Saale in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

Districts of the city of Saalfeld / Saale lie on a high plateau of the Thuringian Slate Mountains : the hamlet of Birkenheide in the southeast , the northern hamlet of Braunsdorf and the central town of Dittrichshütte . history

Birkenheide was first mentioned in 1330-1340. 71 inhabitants settle the hamlet. Agriculture and forestry also took the East German route after the Second World War and until today.
