history

The place was first mentioned in a document on October 19, 1454. The village with 250 inhabitants was known and shaped by the Free School Community of Wickersdorf . It was a educational reform school project by Gustav Wyneken , Paul Geheeb , August Halm , Martin Luserke , Rudolf Aeschlimann and Fritz Hafner that began in 1906. The domain in Wickersdorf was proposed to Paul Geheeb by State Councilor Schaller on July 10, 1906. After 1945 the GDR introduced a boarding school , which strongly followed the social development of the time. It was a special school with extended Russian lessons and a sponsorship contract for the MfS office in Saalfeld. It was regarded as a cadre forge and "red experimental field". The parents of the students belonged predominantly to the GDR elite. After the unsuccessful attempt to reestablish the tradition of the free school community in 1990, the school was closed in 1991. Now the anthroposophical community Wickersdorf uses the property.

From 1991 to 1996 Wickersdorf belonged to the administrative community Saalfelder Höhe . With the conversion of this into the unified municipality of Saalfelder Höhe , Wickersdorf also became a district of this. This was incorporated into Saalfeld on July 6, 2018.
