Jens Karl Willi Knipphals (born May 19, 1958 in Fallersleben ) is a former German long jumper .

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships he finished eighth in 1978 in Milan and won bronze in Budapest in 1983 . In this competition, the referee deliberately measured incorrectly in the last attempt and the prints in the sand were immediately raked. A final clarification was not possible due to the lack of objection by the DLV, despite the existence of video / television recordings.

Overall, he appeared in the national jersey 13 times and was part of the 1980 Olympic squad, which was not allowed to compete because of the Olympic boycott .

Jens Knipphals was unable to take part in the European Indoor Championships in 1980 due to an injury and resigned in 1981 due to illness.

In 1982 the DLV did not nominate him for the European Championships in Athens. In connection with the Olympic boycott of 1980, this was the reason for the withdrawal from competitive sport in 1983 at the age of only 25.

In 1979 and 1980 he was German champion, four times took third place. In the hall he won the national title in 1978, 1982 and 1983 and was only runner-up in 1981 despite a performance better than the previous German record.

In 1979 he became military world champion in Algiers and in 1978 German junior champion.

Jens Knipphals started for VfL Wolfsburg . His father Hansjürgen Knipphals was national goalkeeper in handball, his son Sven Knipphals took part in the Olympic Games and World Championships as an athlete.
